Call for Speaker: The Pet Food Market in China

25 August 2026

The EU SME Centre is looking for a speaker for our upcoming webinar on the pet food market in China. The webinar will take place on 19 October 2026 at 4:00 PM (China Time) via Zoom.

About the webinar

Pet ownership in urban China is moving from basic companionship to specialized care, and different segmentations of Chinese consumers, especially nowadays Gen Z and Millennials, are driving demand for better pet food, from kibble to functional nutrition, with growing attention to ingredient claims.

The webinar will give European SMEs in the pet food industry an entry-level and practical overview of the market. It will cover the main consumer segments and product categories, the product compliance and import requirements EU exporters need to clear (including labelling), and which commercial channels are realistic for EU SMEs, both cross-border e-commerce and general trade. The focus is on packaged pet food: staple diets, wet food, treats and specialised products.

The webinar will last around 1 hour. The presentation will run for approximately 40 minutes and will be followed by a 20-minute moderated Q&A session.

We are looking for one or two speakers to cover the following:

  • Market landscape: overview of China’s pet market, consumer behaviors, fast‑growing product categories, and how rising interest in health and functional nutrition changes best‑selling items. Trends, market size and demographics for European pet food, feed, supplies and services exported to China; breakdown by country of origin; drivers behind purchasing decisions; and key points for preparing to participate in Chinese trade fairs.
  • Compliance and import requirements: Market‑entry conditions for packaged pet food imported into China, including registration procedures, labelling rules, and typical mistakes made by EU exporters.
  • Commercial channels: Available sales channels. Guidance for SMEs on choosing between cross‑border e‑commerce and general trade, based on cost, operational effort and company size.

Speaker Selection Criteria

  • Relevance to topic outlined
  • Practical experience in China pet food
  • Fit the perspective of EU SMEs with limited resources and China market knowledge
  • Comfortable presenting and responding to questions in English.
