The EU SME Centre is a European Union initiative that provides a comprehensive range of hands-on support services to European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), getting them ready to do business in China. Specifically, the Centre assists SMEs to establish, develop and maintain commercial activities in the Chinese market – through export and investment – particularly at the crucial early stages of their market penetration strategy. Created in 2010, this initiative has now started its Phase V (July 2025 – June 2028). For this new phase, we are opening the following positions:
Business Advisor
The EU SME Centre is looking for a Business Advisor for its Knowledge Centre. The ideal candidate is specialised in providing market advice for European SMEs interested in exploring market opportunities in China in the fields of (not limited to) Health, Agrifood, Energy, ICT, Manufacturing, Consumer Goods, Sustainability and Green Development, etc.
Seniority level: Mid to senior level (10 years of experience)

Scope of Work
- Help European SMEs to identify opportunities of doing business in China in a wide range of industries.
- Provide relevant, timely and effective advice to target SMEs on identifying and seizing business opportunities (export and investment) in China while mitigating risks.
- Coordinate a network of field and industry experts in content creation for the EU SME Centre, including answering enquiries, authoring reports and articles and leading one-to-one consultations with SMEs and intermediaries.
- Carry out and coordinate research with internal and external experts in drafting sectoral reports and business guidelines, ensuring the quality of business research.
- Carry out trainings and deliver presentations to SMEs, EU SME Centre partners and other stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders such as trade promotion organisations, industry associations, chambers of commerce and related Chinese organisations in order to strengthen the EU SME Centre’s knowledge network and to leverage synergies.
- Represent the Centre at business and outreach events, write media articles and take an active part in the Centre’s social media platforms.
Qualifications
- Substantial and recent experience in the context of business-related activities with China
- Demonstrable understanding of the issues faced by European businesses in China and the interests of SMEs in Europe
- Excellent English language skills, both spoken and written
- Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is a big plus
- Strong analytical and advisory skills
- Engaging public speaker and presenter
- Enthusiastic team player with a professional and independent work attitude
- Good communication skills and the ability to function effectively under pressure

Training Centre Manager/Coordinator
The EU SME Centre is now looking for a Training Centre Manager/Coordinator who is familiar with the design and implementation of a variety of training programmes for European small and medium-sized companies and business support organisations in China and the EU, on topics related to the business opportunities in China and how to access the market.

Main Tasks
- Monitor the interests and requests from European SMEs built on prior-knowledge and understanding of the industries
- Coordinate and carry out training and events in China and the EU
- Develop and implement objective criteria for the selection of training speakers including selection tests and interviews of individual candidates
- Organise, schedule and moderate webinars
- Gather feedback on the training activities
- Monitor, evaluate and continuously improve the quality of training activities delivered
- Manage the EU SME Centre online training platform
- Report and track the results of the Training Centre
- Provide logistical and organisational support for events and exhibitions
- Maintain and develop a network and database of field experts
- Map the presence of European SMEs in China
- Contribute to support with enquiries received by the EU SME Centre
- Contribute to the preparation and content related to EU-China trade data.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of professional experience in training and event management in the context of business-related activities with China
- Excellent English language skills, both spoken and written
- Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is a big plus
- Excellent organisational skills and able to prioritise a multitude of tasks

Administration and Finance Officer
Location: Beijing, China

Main Tasks
Finance/accounting
In close cooperation with the Team Leader, and upon clearance, carry out tasks and activities related to the management of the project finances, including but not limited to: implementation of the compliance rules under the project contract, Bookkeeping, Registration of expenses and processing request for payments, reconciliation of accounts with consortium partners, monitoring of project expenditures, contribute to preparation for project financial reports and carry out other tasks as required, in order to ensure timely action and prevent delays in payments and report submission.
Procurement
Support in processes of procurement of goods and services necessary for the project activity, according to the project workplan. This includes support with the preparation of the procurement documents, and actions related to the assessment of offers and preparation of the documents for the contracting of the selected offeror. Support the Team Leader in the contract management and perform receipt of goods and services.
Administration and Logistics
- Assist with logistical and administrative actions in the communication and collaboration with consortium partners and external parties;
- Documentation and contracts archive – service contracts, terms of reference on activities, contracts external experts;
- Support in office operations management;
- Assist the team leader in other administrative tasks.
Liaison project implementation
- Contributions to maximise synergies and cooperation between the finance and admin departments of the consortium partners on financial and reporting related work;
- Act as liaison person with Chinese stakeholders and partners, maintain and develop the network of EU SME Centre partners in China;
- Assist the Team Leader in the preparation of project work plans and project reports by providing substantial inputs to monitoring and evaluation of project implementation, as well as in drafting concept notes, ToRs and project communications notes.
Qualifications
- University level education in Business Administration, Accounting or equivalent.
- Native level Chinese and fluent English.
- Excellent computer literacy.
Professional experience
Experience minimum in accounting and finance. Previous professional experience in EU project/ Government administration accounting management (and/or similar projects) a plus.
