The EU SME Centre, in cooperation with the European Chamber of Commerce in China and the China IPR SME Helpdesk, is delighted to invite you to attend to the fifth SME Conference in Beijing on 30th June. This half-day conference will employ a hands-on approach and focus on two of the biggest issues faced by European SMEs when doing business in China: finance and human resources.

*European SMEs can attend for free upon receiving written confirmation after successfully registering on our website. A European SME is defined as a company headquartered in the EU with no more than 250 employees worldwide and an annual turnover not exceeding EUR 50 million.

Speakers

Mr. Pasi Nieminen, EU SME Centre Expert, CEO of Nomovok and Link Motion

Pasi has over 15 years’ working experience in ICT sector, specialising in mobile communications technologies. He also has extensive experience in business operations and financing in Asian and Chinese markets. Currently he is the CEO of Nomovok and its joint venture Link Motion, a company that develops an optimised software and hardware in-vehicle platform.

Mr. Jan VM Holthuis, Managing Partner of HIL International Lawyers & Advisers (HIL)

Jan studied painting and sculpture at the Royal Academy of Arts in Antwerp. He holds a “Certificat d’Etudes Politiques” of the Paris Institute of Political Sciences, a Dutch law degree from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and qualified as a solicitor of England & Wales. Jan started to practice commercial law in 1992 and founded HIL in 1995 to become an international niche law firm specializing in Chinese law and practice. HIL was the first Dutch law firm that was awarded a license to operate a foreign law firm branch in China (2004). Jan is an experienced counsel in cross-border M&A and complex international litigation cases on corporate, commercial and IP related disputes. Jan is a guest lecturer at Erasmus University (Chinese commercial and corporate law & practice), at Wageningen University (Chinese agricultural law & practice) and at the East China University of Politics & Law (Intellectual Property dispute settlement & technology transfers). He is a registered arbitrator at the China International Economic Trade Arbitration Commission and the Shanghai International Arbitration Centre. Jan holds several directorships in multinational companies active in China and Europe. Jan is living and working in Beijing.

Ms. Yanjing Li, Representative of Beijing at Dewit Law Office in China

As a qualified Chinese lawyer, she has experiences in practicing Chinese commercial law, contract law, labor law, oversea M&A and IPR protection in China. With her specialized experience in Chinese law and international investment, she assists her clients from Europe to China or from China to Europe with their investment and provide legal advises to their commercial legal issues. Mrs. Li Yanjing obtained her bachelor degree in Chinese Law at the China University of Political Science and Law and her master degree in Common Law at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Mr. Reinout van Malenstein, IP Expert, China IPR SME Helpdesk

Before joining the China IPR SME Helpdesk, Reinout has gained working experience as an IP lawyer in the Netherlands, working for a Magic Circle law firm and after that as the head of the China desk at a Dutch law firm. He also worked as a delegate of the EU China Co-Reach IPR project and as a researcher and lecturer of Utrecht University in The Netherlands. Reinout is a Dutch citizen, and speaks English, Chinese, Dutch and German. He holds a Master of Laws in Chinese Law from Peking University and a Master of Dutch Law in Civil Law, specializing in Intellectual Property Law, from Utrecht University. Reinout is also a guest lecturer of various prestigious Chinese and European Universities and Institutions.

Mr. Russell Brown, Managing Partner of LehmanBrown International Accountants

Mr. Russell Brown is Founder and Managing Partner of LehmanBrown International Accountants. He has over 28 years working experience including 20 years living in China and involved in establishing and developing businesses in China. Prior to founding LehmanBrown, Russell was Global CFO of one of the world’s largest public relations and communications consulting companies and prior to this, their Asia Pacific Regional CFO. He currently acts as an advisor to international companies entering the China market and to Chinese companies venturing abroad, and is a founding director and Chairman of the Asian Transformation and Turnaround Association.
