As the second largest importer after the US, China’s demand for European dairy products has been on the rise during the last decade.
As more and more Chinese consumers become aware of the nutritional benefits associated with dairy products, sales are projected to grow continuously in the upcoming years. Due to increasing household incomes, scarce confidence in local production, as well as positive recognition of European brands, the Chinese market still presents good opportunities for EU SMEs.
Recently, food safety has become the top priority for Chinese authorities. With the new Food Safety Law (FSL) as of October 2015, the supervision of dairy products will be strengthened, including the management of labelling.
