Centre’s SME General Manager Roundtable Discusses New Economy

3 May 2017, Beijing & Shanghai - The EU SME Centre’s advocacy team held the SME General Manager Roundtable meeting that discussed business opportunities emerging from China’s New Economy and challenges for SMEs. 

During the meeting, three speakers delivered presentations to share their real-life experiences and industry knowledge. 

Gianluca Ghiara, Managing Director at Geapower presented on Chinese Green Tech Sector Evolution and Opportunities for European SMEs. He introduced China's recent green tech legislation and different sub-sectors in green tech. He indicated that since there are many different national and local government departments in charge of China’s green tech legislation, it is complicated for SMEs to develop businesses without restriction.

Marco Vitali, Founding Partner of RM Architects Limited, shared a case study on how their green design has helped sustainable development and improved the utilisation of land in China. Marco pointed out the difficulties in carrying out government projects for foreign SMEs and challenges in accessing to finance in the country.

The last presentation was on compliance in China, given by Daniel Albrecht at Starke Law. It mainly discussed issues related to company’s internal risk control. Daniel listed five key elements including control environment, risk assessment, control activities, information and communication as well as monitoring.
