Business Development Assistant (Internship) – Job Description

The EU SME Centre (the Centre) is a project funded by the European Union, with aim to help EU small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that prepare to do business in China by providing them with a range of information, advice, training and support services. Established in October 2010, the Centre has entered its second phase which will run until July 2018 www.eusmecentre.org.cn

The Centre is implemented by a consortium of six partners - the China-Britain Business Council, the Benelux Chamber of Commerce, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, and the French Chamber of Commerce in China, the EUROCHAMBRES, and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China. 

The EU SME Centre is now looking for an intern for the position of “Business Development Assistant” for its office in Beijing for a duration of 4-6 months. The position is an internship based in Beijing, China.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will have a general administrative support role: draft presentations, edit layout and consolidate documents;
  • Handle business enquiries on market entry strategies from EU SMEs and other stakeholders;
  • Research on China market access related subjects
  • Coordinate and support on Business Development projects such as China Trade Missions organised for EU SME Center’s partners and etc.
  • Support on the communication and coordination of relationships with external partners;
  • Liaise with the other internal key experts (legal expert, the standards and conformity expert and the HR expert) for organizing the administration of business enquiries;
  • Develop and maintain a network of field experts;
  • Present the EU SME Centre to EU SMEs and other external parties;
  • Develop and manage the EU SME Centre service provider database;
  • Support the Business Development Manager on other assignments.

Your profile

  • You have an economic, business management, law, communication or marketing University Degree and relevant professional experience (experience dealing with the public sector will be an asset);
  • You have a strong attention to details, you navigate with ease through multiple tasks and are comfortable working under clear timelines and with tight deadlines;
  • You are fluent in English (fluency in Chinese and/or other European official languages will be a strong asset) and have good drafting skills;
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office package and you are capable of editing and adjusting layout of Word, Excel and Power Point documents under limited time availability;
  • You are a team player;
  • You are willing to learn, proactive and open to work in a multicultural team with a good degree of autonomy;
  • Familiarity and experience with public and EU context will be a strong asset;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the European Institutions and/or consulting firms will be a strong asset.
