About the Speaker

Jan Holthuis, Partner at Buren Legal

Jan Has been active in China since 1995 and predominantly working and living in China since 2009. Jan is an experienced adviser in China-related transactions and complex international litigation cases on corporate, commercial and intellectual property related disputes. Jan is a registered arbitrator at the China International Economic Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and at the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (SHAIC)/ Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SIAC).

Maxime Van't Klooster, General Manager 1421 Consulting Group

Maxime Van't Klooster, with a master degree in international business from Maastricht University, has been living in China for 5 years. As general manager of 1421 Consulting Group, he is responsible for the implementation of organisational strategy in the Beijing office. Moreover, he leads the inbound consulting project team and oversees all corporate services for foreign clients. These experiences have given Maxime a deep insight into Chinese culture and expertise in assisting foreign companies with their China strategy.

Helen Ju, Legal Advisor at the EU SME Centre

Helen has been working at the Centre for the past five years, providing legal advice on various aspects of economic cooperation between Europe and China to EU SMEs looking to establish themselves in the Chinese market. Before joining the Centre, Helen worked as a lawyer for over seven years specializing in foreign direct investment, general corporate and commercial laws, and tax law etc. Among others, she provided full legal support to clients from Europe, the US and Singapore, advising on the feasibility of their proposed transaction models and compliance of the models with PRC regulations, issuing legal opinion and advice, and drafting and reviewing legal documents.

China has invested heavily in science and technology innovation, aiming to turn the country into one of the most innovative economies in the world. Currently, he is the General Manager for the Hong Kong-based LAC Ltd (Logistics and Automation Consulting), an automatic production plants and factory design company founded on the initiative of an academic staff appointed at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy) specialized on Automation and Robotics field.
